HOW TO CARE FOR ZITOZZA PRODUCTS AND TEXTILES
at zitozza we believe in the longevity of all products - we use durable fabrics and we want to offer you the best possible care advice to keep them for as long as possible.
rugs
our rugs are wipe clean only. they are treated with a natural, starch-based coating that may keep it water repellent and stain free for longer.
simply wipe it gently with a wet sponge or cloth. please do not rub. you can soak it in cold water with a mild detergent (but please do not soak any rug that contains a pre-dyed piece that’s not natural in the base colour as these colours might bleed.)
do not wring dry, spin dry or tumble dry. just put it between towels and squeeze out any excess water and simply hang.
they can be ironed at medium heat, you might want to when they first arrive in the post - we send them rolled up, but they flatten easily under the iron.
keep away from fire.
keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods as some bleaching might occur to the natural jute base colour.
although our backing jute is quite rough and has a good grip on our studio’s wooden floors, you may consider using an anti slip layer underneath, this might help on particularly smooth surfaces such as polished stone or laminate flooring. we don’t supply these but we might be able to direct you further. for any additional advice on our rugs, please get in touch.
cushions and fabrics
cushion covers and fabrics are recommended to be hand washed. they are also treated with a natural starch-based coating and are machine washable on a very gentle / hand wash cycle in cold water (maximum 30C). spin dry on a low speed (400 max). do not tumble dry, do not wring dry. iron at medium setting.
if your cushions are made up of any pre-dyed fabric pieces please make sure you wash them separately as these colours might bleed. if you intend to use a cushion with a pre-dyed piece on any other soft furnishing, please take extra care as these colours might rub.
keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods as some discolouration might occur.
cushion pads supplied are wipe clean only - our older fillings are cruelty free duck feathers and our new fillings are made of recycled polyester.
keep away from fire. cushion pads comply with UK flammability standards BS5852 1988 for domestic environments. for any extra treatment (e.g. for contract environments) or any other enquiry about our cushions, please send us a message.
lampshades
lampshades are wipe clean only. always switch off and unplug the lamp before applying the lampshade to the fitting. our electrical fittings are fully tested in compliance with EU legislation for health and safety.
keep away from fire. keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods as some discolouration might occur on jute.
on our lampshades, the printed fabrics are laminated onto a flame retardant pvc layer that complies with BS EN 60598-1-2008, the british standard for luminaries. for extra treatment, different standards, or european plugs, feel free to ask.
general product care
jute can take a lot of tough love in general. however, to preserve the bold colours and the hand printed surface patterns for the longest time, we recommend gentle care.
our recycled linen and recycled cotton blends are designed to be strong and durable. jute is a strong and very sustainable fibre that grows without pesticides and artificial irrigation, binds carbon, and leaves the soil fertile. it does not take a lot of processing and we like using the industrial grade cloth with its unbleached, natural, raw colour and texture that is uneven and slightly slubby. it enhances its tactile feel and is part of our unique, handmade aesthetics.
all our products are handmade from printing to assembly. textured prints and small errors are part of the unique zitozza look and feel. we are committed to the highest quality possible - our products are lacking the uniformity of industrial processes, what we offer is a high quality artisanal product.
