OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

we are committed to our responsibilities and take pride in our sustainable production principles.

zitozza textiles are chosen to be made of sustainable fibres - we work with jute or other fabrics that are recycled (recycled cotton mixes with recycled polyester, or 100% recycled linen), which are re-processed from industrial waste.

we work with natural fibres, but some of our recycled cotton blends include a small amount of recycled polyester (below 15%) - this makes your products more durable.

our rugs are made of jute, which is one of the most sustainable fibres in the world. the jute plant grows quickly and can be harvested in 4-6 months. they grow so densely that they need very little of the toxic pesticides or fertilisers - they in fact they leave the soil more fertile for future crops and help contribute to local agriculture.

much like bamboo, jute is also a brilliant “carbon-capture” plant as it binds carbon-dioxide faster than trees. and because it’s grown in the tropical regions and relies mostly on natural rainfall, it requires no wasteful irrigation systems and has a very small fresh water footprint.

our jute is raw and coarsely woven, we don’t use any blends, and most of the time we use its original golden, natural colour. we are aware of the carbon footprint attached to importing it from further away and we are trying to source and diversify towards other textiles closer to home too.

our prints are applied by hand. block printing requires a fraction of the water of screen printing and none of the energy of the high precision machinery of digital printing. our colours are made of non-toxic, non-reactive pigment based inks that have a low environmental impact, requiring only heat energy for fixing, and a minimal amount of water.

we are continuously reviewing our production standards and look for sustainable resources in our supply chain where possible, hoping to keep producing durable products that make you happy and content — in your closer home as well as your wider home.
