Rhythmic Elevation & Constructivist Geometry
SKÁLA is a study in vertical rhythm and industrial transition. the motifs find their origin in the monumental concrete staircases of the mid-century city—specifically the iconic central stairs of the SKÁLA department store in 1980s hungary. while the name pays homage to this commercial landmark, it also references the italian scala, meaning staircase or scale.
the system is built on a series of matching angles that allow for a perfect, seamless balance between motifs. through the modular repetition of these "steps," the SKÁLA tileset can create flowing, wave-like sequences or sharp, zig-zag stripes in a distinctly brutalist fashion.
while versatile in any palette, SKÁLA is particularly striking in high-contrast monochrome. in black and white, the patterns take on a rigorous, constructivist quality that serves as a sophisticated architectural anchor for minimalist interiors.
